Decorative Rock in Reno & Northern Nevada

Low maintenance ground cover in a range of colors and sizes, and the safer choice over bark within five feet of your home for defensible space.

Decorative Rock Built For High Desert Conditions

Low maintenance ground cover that needs no mowing and no watering, and the safer choice within five feet of your house for defensible space. Perez Landscaping installs decorative rock, gravel, and drainage rock across Reno, Sparks, and Northern Nevada.

  • 35 years of local experience

Ramiro Perez has been installing rock and solving drainage in Northern Nevada since 1990.

  • We grade before we cover

Rock over an unresolved drainage problem hides it for a season and makes it worse in the next.

  • We know the fire rules

Bark and mulch are not allowed within five feet of the house in areas at risk from wildfire. Rock is.

  • You get the owner

Ramiro walks the property, quotes the job, and is on site while it gets done.

Rock Applications We Install

  • Ground cover beds

Low maintenance coverage for front yards, side yards, and perimeters.

  • Defensible space

Replacing bark against the house with rock, which is what the fire rules call for.

  • Dry creek beds and drainage runs

Rock that moves roof and slope runoff away from your foundation.

  • Erosion control

Riprap and larger stone that holds slopes and channels in place.

Design Options

Rock comes in a range of colors and sizes, and the right pick depends on the job. Smaller gravel is comfortable underfoot for paths, three quarter inch is the workhorse for beds, and larger cobble stays put in drainage runs. Colors run through browns, tans, reds, and grays, and we show you samples before anything is delivered.

Timeline

Most rock installations take one to a few days depending on square footage, access, and how much has to come out first. You get a written estimate before we start.

Care And Maintenance

Rock is the lowest maintenance ground cover available here, but it is not zero maintenance. Windblown soil settles in over the years and a few weeds will start in it, so occasional spot treatment keeps it clean. Rock can also be topped up if it thins out.

See The Difference

Bark beds swapped for rock, bare yards finished, and drainage runs that look like landscaping.

“I had a rather small project for a retaining wall, and Perez Landscaping was perfect for the task. Ramiro the owner answered my request on Sunday, came out to scope the project on Monday, and had it done by Wednesday!”

Decorative Rock FAQs

Will weeds still come through?

Fewer, but yes, eventually. Fabric stops what pushes up from below. What gets you over time is windblown soil settling on top and seeding there.

Is rock safer than bark near the house?

Within five feet of the house, yes, and the fire rules call for it. Bark is fuel. Beyond that five feet, bark is fine.

How deep should the rock be?

Two to three inches for a standard bed. Thinner shows the fabric and lets more weeds start.

Can you remove my lawn and replace it with rock?

Yes, it is one of the most common jobs we do. Note there is no turf removal rebate in the Reno area, so nobody should be telling you one will cover part of it.

Do you install dry creek beds?

Yes. Dry creek beds, gravel drainage runs, swales, and slope erosion control.
