Xeriscaping in Reno & Northern Nevada

Drought tolerant landscaping designed for the high desert. Less water, less mowing, lower bills, and a yard that still looks like something.

Xeriscaping Built For High Desert Conditions

Lower your water bill, stop mowing, and get a yard built around plants that belong in this climate. Perez Landscaping designs and installs xeriscapes across Reno, Sparks, and Northern Nevada.

  • 35 years of local experience

Ramiro Perez has been building landscapes suited to this climate since 1990.

  • We design for the soil you have

Our ground is hard on plants, and there is a hard layer in many yards that stops water cold. We plan around it.

  • One contractor start to finish

Turf removal, grading, drainage, hardscape, rock, planting, and irrigation.

  • You get the owner

Ramiro walks the property, quotes the job, and is on site while it gets built.

Xeriscape Options We Install

  • Full conversions

The whole yard converted to drought tolerant planting, rock, and drip.

  • Partial conversions

Keep a small lawn where the kids or the dog actually use it, convert the rest.

  • Planted xeriscapes

Drought tolerant shrubs, ornamental grasses, and perennials with rock between them.

  • Outdoor rooms

A paver patio and seat walls at the center with low water planting around it.

Design Options

A xeriscape is not a gravel lot. We mix drought tolerant plants, ground cover, rock, and hardscape so the yard has color, structure, and something to look at in every season. You choose how much green you keep and how much goes to rock.

Timeline

Most conversions take several days to a couple of weeks depending on square footage, how much comes out first, and how much hardscape is included. You get a written estimate before work starts.

Care And Maintenance

Much less work than a lawn, but not zero. Plants need occasional pruning, rock beds pick up windblown dirt and a few weeds over time, and drip emitters should be checked now and then for clogs.

See The Difference

Thirsty lawns converted into low water yards that still look finished in every season.

“I had a rather small project for a retaining wall, and Perez Landscaping was perfect for the task. Ramiro the owner answered my request on Sunday, came out to scope the project on Monday, and had it done by Wednesday!”

Xeriscaping FAQs

Is there a rebate for removing my lawn?

No. There is no turf removal rebate in the Reno and Sparks area. The program people ask about is in Las Vegas, run by a different water authority.

Do I have to give up all my grass?

Not at all. Many customers keep a small lawn where it gets used and convert the rest, which captures most of the water savings.

How much water will I save?

Watering is the biggest water use on most properties here, and drip on drought tolerant plants uses a fraction of what sprinklers on grass do. We can give you a real sense of it after seeing the yard.

What grows well here?

More than most people expect. A wide range of shrubs, ornamental grasses, and perennials handle our soil and winters and still give you color.

Will it look bare in winter?

Only if it is designed badly. Evergreens, grasses that hold their shape, and the rock and hardscape carry the yard through the cold months.
