Retaining Walls in Reno & Northern Nevada

Block walls up to four feet that hold back slopes, stop erosion, and turn an unusable grade into flat yard, built with the drainage that keeps them standing.

Retaining Walls Built For High Desert Conditions

Hold back a slope, stop erosion, and turn an unusable bank into flat yard you can actually use. Perez Landscaping designs and builds segmental block retaining walls across Reno, Sparks, and Northern Nevada.

  • 35 years of local experience

Ramiro Perez has been building walls in Northern Nevada since 1990.

  • Built to last through our winters

Proper excavation, a compacted base, and drainage behind the wall.

  • We tell you about permits up front

Walls under four feet are generally exempt in Washoe County, but not if a slope, driveway, or structure sits above them. You will know which one you have before you spend anything.

  • You get the owner

Ramiro walks the property, quotes the job, and is on site while it gets built.

Retaining Walls We Build

  • Segmental block walls

Residential systems for terraces, planters, and grade transitions.

  • Terraced walls

Multiple shorter tiers instead of one tall wall, which improves drainage and often keeps you under the permit threshold

  • Erosion control walls

For slopes that wash sediment into the yard or the neighbor’s property every spring.

  • Steps and seat walls

Stairs, landings, and patio edging tied into the wall system.

Design Options

Choose from a range of block colors, textures, and face profiles to match your home. We will help you size the wall, pick the cap, and decide whether terracing gets you the same usable yard for less.

Timeline

Most residential walls take a few days from excavation to cleanup.

Care And Maintenance

A properly built block wall needs very little. Keep the drain outlet clear so water can escape, and avoid redirecting runoff from new landscaping into the back of the wall.

“I had a rather small project for a retaining wall, and Perez Landscaping was perfect for the task. Ramiro the owner answered my request on Sunday, came out to scope the project on Monday, and had it done by Wednesday!”

Retaining Walls FAQs

Do I need a permit?

Not if the wall is under four feet and nothing loads it from above. If a slope, driveway, or structure sits above the wall, you need a permit regardless of height. We identify which you have during the site visit.

How tall can you build?

Many residential walls come in at or under four feet.

Why is one quote cheaper than another?

Usually because of what goes behind the block. Drainage rock, pipe, and proper base compaction are invisible once the wall is done, and they are the easiest things to leave out of a low bid.

Will the wall drain properly?

Drainage is built into the wall, and it is the difference between one that lasts and one that leans. We will walk you through what goes in behind yours.

Can you fix a wall that is already leaning?

Sometimes, depending on how far it has moved and whether the base is sound. Ramiro will look at it and tell you honestly whether repair or rebuild is the better spend.
